Tradeshow Attendant – Volunteer Job description

The City of Brandon is currently seeking qualified and interested citizens to volunteer for the position as tradeshow attendant(s). Opportunities are available within a number of programs such as Brandon in Bloom, Operation Clean Sweeps, Brandon Skate Plaza and many other events held by or in conjunction with the City of Brandon. The position(s) length of time is ongoing and per tradeshow event. Such events would be the Home and Leisure Show and the Royal Manitoba Summer Fair to name a couple.

Responsibilities:

  • Greet individuals in a courteous and inviting manner;
  • Provide information to individuals on the number of programs and services that the City of Brandon offers;
  • Provide information to individuals specific to the event, program or service that they are representing;
  • Record and forward any inquiries that need follow-up, clarification or more information not readily available to you;
  • Assist in the assembly and/or dismantling of tradeshow displays and booths;
  • Participate in any pre-event briefings;
  • Any other duties related to working at tradeshows.

Experience and Skills:
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Effective methods of relaying information on a number of programs and services;
  • Ability to speak another language is desirable but not as asset;
  • Knowledge of the City of Brandon and it’s program and services;
  • Planning, organizing and project coordination skills;
  • Independent and able to work with limited supervision;
  • Able to follow safety precautions when on site;
  • Able to follow direction and policies at all times.

Volunteer Requirements:
  • Must have own method of transportation;
  • Must be able to perform duties for three or more hours at a time;
  • Must be social, have a friendly attitude and enjoy meeting new people;
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills;
  • Must be able to work weekends and/or evenings;
  • Report to all scheduled shifts/events and meetings in a punctual and professional manner;
  • Notify the Coordinator in advance if unable to attend event.

Supervision:
  • All volunteers will be responsible to the City of Brandon Community Services Department and/or the event or program that they are representing;
  • Some supervision may be provided by senior volunteers with two (2) years experience;
  • Volunteers may be asked to cooperate in an annual review and assessment of the Volunteer Development Program and their overall experience volunteering with the City of Brandon.
