The City of Brandon is currently seeking interested citizens in volunteering to assist in various capacities at the City of Brandon Neighbourhood Sweep(s). Opportunities are available within a wide range of duties and tasks when the event(s) are being held. Neighbourhood Sweeps in the past have been held for one full day in the spring. Other dates and times of the seasons may be explored and added.
Responsibilities:
Assist in planting, weeding and deadheading of flowers;
Assist in planting of trees, shrubs and other plants;
Assist in pruning, cultivating and clearing of flowers, plants and trees;
Assist in painting of playground structures and parks;
Assist in collection of litter refuse and recyclables from various locations;
Assist in painting or removal of graffiti from various locations;
Assist in identifying any areas of the community that may need improvements;
Any other assistance in maintenance or beautification that is required.
Experience and Skills:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
Gardening knowledge would be an asset but not necessary for some tasks;
Planning, organizing and project coordination skills;
Independent and able to work with limited supervision;
Able to follow safety precautions when on site;
Able to follow direction and policies at all times;
Enthusiastic about gardening and landscaping.
Volunteer Requirements:
Must have own method of transportation;
Must be able to volunteer for at least two hours per event;
Notify the Coordinator in advance if unable to attend shift.
Supervision:
All volunteers will be responsible to the City of Brandon Community Services Department and City of Brandon Public Works Department;
Some supervision may be provided by City of Brandon staff;
