The Victim Services Unit is committed to providing you with support, information and referral services to help victims of crime or misfortune. Since 1990, the Victim Services Unit has been providing ongoing support, information and referral services to victims. When you’re the victim of crime or misfortune, you may experience feelings of:

A crime, an accident or emergency can be traumatic and overwhelming for the victim, the family or for witnesses. A person may feel loss of control, emotional turmoil and confusion. Court proceedings can be long and stressful. The Victim Services Unit is committed to assisting victims through crisis, the justice system including police, courts and corrections.


Information - When you need information about your case? You have a Right to know.

The Victim Assistance Unit is available to assist you. We are here to assist you through this crisis. If you have questions about police procedures, the court system and other important issues, such as:

  • How do I file a Victim Impact Statement?
  • Do I qualify for Victims Compensation?
  • Court Updates and Court Orders – what does this order mean? The conditions?

Victims have Rights

In Manitoba, Victims have a voice and the right to expect to:

  • Be treated with courtesy, compassion and respect
  • Receive assistance throughout the criminal justice process
  • Have reasonable steps taken for their safety and safety of their families
  • Be given information and updates on the case
  • Participate in the Victim Impact Statement program
  • Be given information on the Compensation for Victims of Crime program
  • Request that the accused participate in restorative justice initiatives
  • Be given information, on request, as to the name of the accused, the offence for which they have been charged, court dates and release information
  • Have property that was seized as evidence, be returned as soon as possible

SafetyAid Program (FREE for SENIORS)

SafetyAid is a crime prevention program for seniors. The SafetyAid Team will come to your home and to do a FREE home safety audit and a fall prevention audit. It gives seniors a greater sense of safety and security in their homes. SafetyAid also provides material on how to prevent falls.

Who is eligible?

  • Senior 65+
  • Any Senior who live in a house
  • Net income below $25,000 or combined income of $30,000 for couples
  • Seniors who exceed the income levels, are STILL ELIGIBLE FOR A FREE AUDIT!
  • Victims of break and enter or home invasion receive 1st priority
